Where is Beattie now and what is he doing?

George came out of jail - yet again - in December 1996. He had been taken in again two months earlier for a reason the Scottish Office will still not disclose. He had lost his Public service Vehicle licence when he was taken back into jail in 1992, but he passed the test again in 1997 and he is now working as a bus driver in the South of England. He moved South again because of the pack of newspaper reporters that followed his every move in Carluke. In 2008 he became seriously ill, though during 2009 he made a steady recovery.

What is happening to Lewis Johnston?

Nothing.
Johnston lives with his wife and daughter in a beautiful little town called Gairlochhead, about an hour north of Glasgow.

What happened to William Muncie?

He got the job of Assistant Chief Constable after his success in jailing Beattie. After the "Rough Justice" programme, he threatened to sue the "Rough Justice" producer - but then forgot to do so. In the mid eighties he retired. He died a few years ago.

What is current in Beattie's case?

Another petition is being prepared citing incompetence of attorney at his trial as reason for another appeal. The defence advocate Charles MacArthur,died in 2001
